Your body can handle it better early in the workout because you're fresh and have the energy needed for those workouts. On the other hand, cardio should be the last thing you do at the gym because it helps your body recover by increasing blood flow to the muscles. It also helps your body flush out the lactic acid that builds up in the muscles while you're weight training. Why is that important? Lactic acid is what makes your muscles feel stiff and sore.
